Our Monday just got better. Apparently, the Cupertino-based tech juggernaut Apple announced the new AirTag 2nd-generation with a few upgrades up its sleeves. Here’s what Apple has to say about the latest announcement that came out of nowhere.

Apple unveils the AirTag 2nd-generation that can find stuff 2x farther

According to Apple, the second generation of AirTag, or simply put, the new AirTag, has gotten better. Of course, there’s no cosmetic change; however, the second-gen Ultra Wideband Chip (UWB) ensures you can find the lost AirTag from up to 50% compared to the original tracker, or in other words, that’s twice the distance. For the universe, this is the same UWB chip you’d find on iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, Apple Watch Series 11, and Watch Ultra 3.

Apart from the new chip built in, the new AirTag also brings a louder speaker system that can buzz 2x farther away than the original tracker. This goes on to show how Apple has improved the audio feedback on the tracker that has already garnered positive responses, whether it’s finding lost AirPods, luggage, or whatnot.

There’s more. Apple AirTag 2nd-generation is already powerful thanks to Apple’s Find My network, which allows your iPhone and other Apple devices to communicate with the tracker as well as other iPhones in the network, while ensuring industry-leading security features are put in place to prevent unnecessary or unwanted tracking.

Another major feature is the ability to find a lost tracker using Apple Watch Series 9 and later, as well as Watch Ultra 2 and later. This works on Precision Finding, which tends to increase the scope of where trackers can be a great asset, in case you or your loved ones are often prone to misplacing their items. The trackers have a battery life that lasts a year, just like their predecessor, ensuring you never lose sight of your accessories with the AirTag on.

Talking about the AirTag 2nd-generation pricing, Apple has capped the pricing for one unit at $29, followed by a pack of four at $99. The tracker is already available for order via Apple.com, while the offline availability across Apple Store locations will commence by the end of this week, at least for the US.

This is perhaps the largest update on the AirTag that made their debut in 2021. Apple has decided to name its AirTag 2nd generation and not AirTag 2, so yeah, that’s all about it.
