- Apple is eyeing towards debuting Apple M6 chip sooner than before with upgraded specs.
- The teaser comes just three months into the first M5-powered products that makes the news unusual but not impossible.
- The M6 chipset will power devices started as early as end of this year's M6 MacBook Pro with OLED display although the timeline is still unclear.
We are three months into Apple M5 products, and it seems the tech giant is already working on the Apple M6 chip. This may sound surprising given the timeline, but to be honest, it does bring a lot of questions to my mind.
Apple M6 chip is cooking up, as it is expected to launch in a few months
According to Mark Gurman on the Power On newsletter via Bloomberg, we could see new MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs, and other Macs this year. However, what’s interesting is a snippet Gurman shared teasing the M6 chip and its imminent release.
It has been three months since the first M5-powered product made its debut. It is ideal for chipmakers to wait approximately a year before releasing next-generation chipsets. However, Gurman suggests the M6 chipset could be nearing its launch, probably in a few months from now. For perspective, there was a five-month gap between M3 and M4, and even after that, the M4 unleashed a potentially higher performance quotient than the M3, and we could expect the same with the M6 chipset.
There has been evidence on the rumor mill suggesting an overhauled M6 MacBook Pro with OLED and a complete redesign launching soon. Truth be told, it won’t come anytime this year since the high-end M5 MacBook Pro is still due this year. Do note that Gurman still mentioned a revamped MacBook Pro would come by the end of this year, so we wouldn’t know if the aforementioned rumor is true or not. It does, however, paint a picture suggesting Apple’s future releases that we will get to see in the aerial view later.
An aerial view of Apple launches
As NotebookCheck puts it, the first half of this year will see a new MacBook Pro (probably with M5), followed by MacBook Air models and a Mac Studio. There’s also an upgrade to the Apple Studio Display in the works.
We have already seen the new AirTags 2nd generation, and the Gemini-powered Siri is coming on board iOS 26.4 beta next month, followed by a full-fledged iOS 27 release at the WWDC 2026. Similarly, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, and a new macOS would arrive at the biggest tech conference as well.
Moving forward, we have an all-new Mac Mini in the second half of this year, followed by an entry-level MacBook with an Apple A-series iPhone chipset. There’s a redesigned MacBook Pro with OLED in the works, and this is where we could see the Apple M6 chip on board, although take it with a pinch of salt.
The Apple iPhone 18 series is arriving in September 2026 as well, at least the Pro versions, while the non-Pro versions and iPhone Air 2 would debut early next year.
