Apple has expanded the availability of its Apple Sports app to more than 170 countries and regions worldwide with support for over 90 new markets. The company announced the update as it prepares to support fans during this year’s World Cup tournament.

Apple Sports is a free iPhone app that provides real-time scores, statistics, standings, and updates for major sports leagues and events. The app has a simplified interface that allows users to follow their favorite teams and competitions in one place.

Apple targets global sports audience

According to Apple, the wider rollout comes as global interest in international football continues to rise ahead of the World Cup in June. The company said users can now follow tournament groupings, customize scoreboards, and receive updates for national teams directly within the app.

Fans who follow specific teams can also access Live Activities on the iPhone Lock Screen and Apple Watch. This feature provides live match updates without requiring users to open the app.

Apple also confirmed that widgets are available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac home screens so users can monitor scores and tournament progress in real time.

New features added for tournament coverage

Alongside the international expansion, Apple introduced several new features to improve the viewing and tracking experience during the tournament.

Tournament bracket view

The app now includes a scrollable tournament bracket that allows users to track matchups and results throughout each round. Fans can follow team progression from the group stage through the final.

Visual team formations

Enhanced game cards now display visual formations for each team’s starting lineup. Apple said the feature will provide deeper tactical insight before matches begin.

Apple News integration

Users can also access sports coverage through Apple News with a single tap inside the app. This includes headlines, match analysis, and tournament-related editorial content.

Integration with Apple TV and streaming services

Apple Sports also connects directly to the Apple TV app. Users can tap into live matches available through supported streaming services during the tournament.

The company said the app experience was built around speed and simplicity, with a focus on quick navigation and live updates.

Free download on the App Store

Apple Sports remains free to download on the App Store for iPhone users.
