OnePlus India responds to exit speculation

OnePlus released an official statement denying withdrawal from India in the foreseeable future. It said, “OnePlus India continues to operate its business as usual, with all local operations on track. We urge the media to exercise restraint before amplifying unverified speculation,” as per FoneArena.

Bloomberg sent out a story by Mark Gurman and Chris Welsh, according to whom OnePlus has decided to back off the markets in the EU and the United States as early as this week. The report also mentioned a potential exit from the Indian market, possibly by 2027, although with other (unnamed) markets. Turns out the Chinese maker is undergoing a major restructuring under the parent company Oppo, and thus the withdrawal is due to the various reasons mentioned below.

The chipmaker giant has no plans to withdraw from India, which is by far its biggest market at 7.2% alongside the Asian market. Over the past few months, OnePlus has undergone major restructuring, bringing ColorOS across global units aboard OnePlus and Realme phones.

Why OnePlus is reportedly restructuring

According to reports, there are a few reasons why OnePlus decided to finally pull out from major markets. For starters, it has been suffering in the United States and the EU even after pushing the brand across the countries aggressively. There are also financial and political uncertainties at Oppo, as it is a Chinese brand.

Apart from that, rising component costs and memory prices have forced smartphone makers to pass on the cost to customers, leading to few takers and eventually hurting their market share. There’s also an ongoing battle with OnePlus and Apple around trade secrets. All this has forced major tech giants to take action, and this could be the reason why OnePlus wants to get away from certain markets.

However, it is also imperative to understand that OnePlus India is still there, and there are no plans to shut it down in 2027. Watch this space to know what happens next. OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus N6, a new and affordable series sitting under Nord, with the N6x joining the wagon soon. It is soon to launch the OnePlus 16, a flagship phone for 2026, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 (or Pro), coming this October.
