One thing that stood out immediately was how much attention Anthropic gave to coding quality. Previous versions sometimes produced weird comments, missed obvious bugs, or acted overconfidently, even when the output was wrong. That seems to be improved now.
According to Anthropic, Opus 4.8 is much better at spotting coding flaws and checking its own work before responding. The company says the model is around four times better at identifying bugs compared to the previous version.
More importantly, it now tells users when it is unsure about something instead of pretending everything is correct. Small change, maybe, but honestly, very important for developers. Dynamic Workflows added in research preview
Another major addition is something called “Dynamic Workflows” inside Claude Code. Right now it is still in research preview, but the idea is pretty interesting. Those agents can write code, review outputs, verify fixes, and combine everything together automatically.
Anthropic says this setup can even handle large codebase migrations with hundreds of thousands of lines of code. Sounds a little crazy, but also kind of practical for enterprise teams dealing with massive software projects every day.
The company also added a new Effort Setting for developers.
- High Effort mode focuses on deeper reasoning and is meant for difficult coding tasks or long workflows.
- Low Effort mode is designed for faster responses and lower costs when the task is simple.
Anthropic also updated its Messages API in a way developers will probably appreciate more than casual users. System instructions can now be inserted directly into ongoing chat workflows without interrupting the existing session. So developers can adjust budgets, rules, or agent behavior while tasks are still running.
Pricing remains unchanged, fast mode added
Pricing for the Claude Opus 4.8 stays the same in standard mode. It costs $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. There is also a new Fast Mode now. Anthropic says it runs around 2.5 times faster than normal processing.
The pricing is higher at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, but the company claims it is still cheaper than the older high-speed options they offered before. Anthropic also teased future projects during the announcement.
